Yamaha P 80 digital piano repair

 Here I will explain how you can repair the key for your Yamaha P80 piano at minimum cost.
 All you need for this is a candle, needle, and pilers and all of us have those things at home so before you quit reading (if you probably thinking "What is this fool writing here") I just wanna tell you that you have nothing to lose if you try this.
 Your key is probably damaged and won't go back to regular position after you press it, or it will be back but slower than it should be.
 So why that happens?
 Here I will explain everything about how keys work and how they usually get damaged.
 Look at this photo:

 If you look closely at this key you can notice that this one was already repaired with glue but the previous owner didn't do that well so when I bought this used piano I saw that four keys were damaged and didn't work fine.

 I opened the P80 piano and found that some of the keys were repaired with glue and some were just damaged so I have six keys to repair or replace in total.

 Keys for a Yamaha P80 piano cost about 13-15$ and since I need six that would cost me close to 100$ so I decided to try to repair them myself and look how I did.

 You can open the picture in a new window to see full size but on the right side of the key someone used glue to fix a piece of plastic that was broken and when he tried to fix the key he did not place the piece right and it was moved more to the right side that it should be.

So now the key doesn't stand at a normal position on the mechanism and the axis of the key is unbalanced making the key have more resistance with other parts of a mechanism. Now you understand why the key is returned slowly or even remains there.

So your job is to make axes of the key as it should be.

First, take a lighter and candle and heat the needle so you can easily put the needle in the body of the keys. When you heat the needle the needle changes color to red. When the needle is ready then you must fast plug the needle in the key's body like I did in these pictures:

Stamp a needle 4-5 mm in the body so it must to stand firmly in it.

The right place where you need to put the needle is the one that will return the correct axis to the key.

After you do this just cut off the needle. 

Now, when you back the key in the piano, the needle will hold the key in a normal position and the key will have no resistance with other parts.

This method works perfectly if you put the needle in the right place. Even if you make a mistake you can repeat it all over again until you do it right.
